Sixth Day Cover

From September 2007, both schools and local authorities have new responsibilities to offer full-time education to pupils on fixed-term or permanent exclusions from the sixth day.

While the government is providing some additional funding to support schools in managing their new responsibilities, all schools and local authorities will need to find cost-effective ways to meet their obligations.

Accipio Learning offers two different solutions which enable schools and local authorities to continue to provide a high-quality education to excluded pupils whether in the school environment or at home.

For permanent or long fixed-term exclusions, the Accipio School’s programme of live lessons allows pupils to receive real teaching from subject-specialist teachers over the internet at home or in a school based facility.

For shorter fixed-term exclusions, the Accipio Library provides a resource of over 1,500 pre-recorded lessons that can be accessed by pupils 24/7 either independently or with the support of a teacher or learning mentor.

Both solutions can be shared across a school collaborative or cluster as part of a co-ordinated approach to managing sixth day exclusions in the most cost-effective manner possible.
