20/06/10 Accipio's Pupils Celebrate at Virtual Prom
At the end of a tough year preparing for GCSEs, many pupils know they have a prom or ball to look forward to - a celebration of the end of the year. This summer, Accipio Learning's students were not to be outdone by their friends at mainstream school; they had their very own virtual school prom.
On Friday, Accipio hosted its own prom - in cyberspace. Just like at traditional proms, a Prom King and Queen were chosen but it was the best avatar created by each of the pupils that led to the much-coveted prize. Pupils also had the opportunity to write messages in the Yearbook, bid farewell to fellow pupils and to be entertained by an all-singing, all-dancing cyber-performance by their teachers!
Headteacher, Eileen Field, said: "The virtual prom had a really positive reception and was a great end to the academic year. It was clear that pupils had formed real friendships with their classmates even though they have only met in the online classroom and never met each other face-to-face. The prom gave them a chance to have some fun and say goodbye. We teachers really enjoyed it too and there were more than a few teary eyes at the end!"
The pupils are all sitting their GCSEs despite being unable to attend a mainstream school. Last summer, Accipio's GCSE pupils achieved a pass rate of 98% with 43% A*-C grades. This summer Accipio and its pupils are hoping for even greater success.
05/02/10 Accipio launches "Twilight" booster lessons
Accipio Learning has launched Accipio "Twilight" to help improve the grades of GCSE pupils in the lead up to their exams. Focussed on Maths and English, these six-week booster courses deliver two lessons per week in each subject with the first courses beginning after February half-term.
